Principles

Helping others win, doesn't mean you lose... Instead, you'll multiply your wins.

Have you considered that helping others succeed will also help you succeed? Life is not a zero-sum game where a win by one means others lose. Conversely, we all rise and fall together. When you mentor an employee, they do better work for you. Even when you help strangers, you'll find more referrals come to you.

A potential customer called me recently, asking how to sign up for one of my technology courses. I asked what their goals were in taking the training and realized they already had technical skills needed to succeed. They were only looking for more training since prior training did not yet result in the right job offer. They were focusing on the wrong solution.

What they really needed was to use their existing skills to find opportunity in a relevant local meetup. Now when they talk to others in that group, they will most likely tell their story. That will encourage others to contact me that actually need my services. Can you find similar opportunities to help others?

When you adopt a mentor mindset, you'll find new opportunities come your way that you wouldn't have had otherwise.
